For my final project, I decided to stick with my original idea of exploring the world of dating using a spinoff of the Love Island TV show. In this website, you start off on the island and have the choice between seeking “Females” or “Males”. When you choose the “Female” route, you then have a choice between dating a “Supermodel” or “Girl Next Door” Trope. If you select the “Supermodel”, you are automatically brought to a page where you have won a trophy wife and the game is over. If you select the “Girl Next Door”, you then can choose a “Coffee Study” or “Home Cooked Dinner” date idea. The funny thing is that no matter what date you choose, as a person seeking females in the hypothetical scenario, you always end up winning. When you choose the “Male” route, you then have a choice between dating a “Hollywood Heartthrob” or “Medium Ugly Average Guy” Trope. If you select the “Hollywood Heartthrob”, you are automatically brought to a page where you have gotten played and have a choice to try again. If you select the “Medium Ugly Average Guy”, you are then brought to the next page where you can pick between a “Sunset Picnic” or “Fancy Dinner”. The irony is that no matter what type of person or type of date you choose, as a person seeking males in the hypothetical scenario, you always end up losing. I purposely made the heart return home button at the bottom right of the website different on the male versus female journeys. In terms of females, players were always able to “Try their luck again” in a positive light. On the other hand, with the males it was more negative telling players to simply just “Try again”. I changed my idea a little bit from the original because I used this to tell the story from more of a female perspective on the challenges of the dating world rather than just from a general vantage point. If I were to improve this website, I would have added more hypothetical routes in the website and added in more visuals.
