When reflecting on my composition for Project 2, I stayed very on track with my original idea. Originally, I wanted my Exquisite Corpse Soundscape to be a reflection of the chaotic inner dialogue that is going through my head on a regular basis. Then, I had the creative idea of expanding my Soundscape to be reflective of an abstract character, a professional chef. There are so many sounds to be heard in the background of a professional chef's kitchen, from chopping knives to washing dishes to banging pots and pans. The conjunction of these noises creates a sympathy of sound that creates a sense of calm among the chaos. In my composition, I incorporated the background noise of Rosetta Hall to create an upbeat ambience. Some sounds that I decided to edit into my composition included those of a “toaster”, “egg frying”, “knives”, “stirring” and “rustling through a fridge” from the shared sound drive. Towards the middle of the composition, I switched the focus to going home after a long day of work, by adding sounds from the shared drive such as driving a car, taking a shower, and using a hairdryer. Afterwards, I decided to complete the rest of the soundscape composition by repeating similar sounds from the kitchen and finally finishing with going home and doing a night time routine. By doing this, I depicted the cycle of life and how work is often a repetitive continuation of the everyday mundane. However, I tried to make my soundscape a little more interesting by showing all the unique sounds that you may hear in a kitchen working as a professional chef. Next time, I would try experimenting more with the “Effects” features in Adobe Audition to manipulate the sounds more. I am not super familiar with all of the effects and would love to experiment with more of them.
